Welcome To Vipers AAU Girls Basketball

January 28, 2021 --- UPDATE ON COVID-19 AND OUR 2021 AAU SEASON.

TRYOUTS for 2021 are currently on hold.

Dear Vipers Families and Friends,

Here's the good news - school basketball will be played in New Hampshire, Vermont and parts of Massachusetts this year, with a later start and end date, but with games being allowed.  That's a step in the right direction!

And here's the bad news - AAU basketball clubs like Vipers are very limited to what they can do.  There are travel restrictions and difficulties securing practice space. We're not sure if or when the public schools will open up their gyms for use by outside clubs like ours, but we don't anticipate that happening until April 2021 at the earliest. However we are working on finding private facilities.

Tournaments in 2021:  There will be tournaments in 2021, however we will also be working towards scheduling our own private games against other grade/age appropriate AAU and other basketball clubs.  We will work hard towards providing a full basketball season in 2021 and we are preparing for that now.

We anticipate that the 2021 AAU season will probably begin and end later than normal, which means that we may not begin until April and might not end until June or July.

Currently we do not have plans to host a tournament in 2021.

We are thankful for the patience and understanding given by all of our families and players.  This has been a difficult period for all of us and we deeply appreciate your help in weathering the Covid storm.  We’re trying to be realistic and make decisions that protect our players’ health and well-being while providing them with an athletic experience, and we're working towards that goal for 2021.

There will be plenty of basketball to play in the future, but meanwhile, please stay safe and healthy!

Jeff, Matt and John

Who we are:

Vipers basketball is a developmental basketball program for girls from
SE Vermont, SW New Hampshire, and Western Massachusetts. We are open to girls in grades 4/5 through 11 who love the sport of basketball and are striving to improve their individual skills and team play.  We have a committed, experienced coaching staff who put the individual improvement of their players at the forefront of their seasonal goals. We are determined to improve your child's fundamental skills and abilities while stressing team play, sportsmanship, and individual commitment.

The Vipers AAU Girls Basketball program is a non-profit organization.

Who can play:

We believe that girls with a deep interest and a sufficient background in basketball should have the opportunity to participate and further develop their abilities.  We require that a player has some background experience either through rec ball or school basketball. AAU basketball is not necessarily for everyone however, and it is definitely NOT the appropriate way to begin experiencing the sport.

Please note:  We have a limited number of teams and coaches, therefore we have a very limited number of spots for players.  Unfortunately we can not guarantee that we'll have a spot for every player.

Our season:

Each Vipers team will play in five tournaments
which are held on weekends throughout the spring and summer. Vipers teams attend tournaments throughout New England beginning around April 1st and concluding in late May. Most tournaments do not require overnight stays. Each coach tries hard to ensure equal playing time for all players on teams for grades 5 through 8.  Varsity level teams should expect a more competitive approach.  It is serious, strenuous competition at all levels and will challenge your child to discover her potential abilities.

The Vipers AAU program would like to thank all of our players, along with their families, for all of their hard work and dedication. The future of girls’ basketball is very bright at our area schools due to player participation in AAU athletics.

The Vipers program would not exist without the kind support of several institutions, businesses and individuals beyond our own families and players. We would like to thank the following (in no particular order) for their help and continuing support for our program for young female athletes:

Hinsdale High School
Landmark College
The Putney School
Vermont Academy
Green Mountain UHS
Westmoreland School (NH)
Putney Central School
Dummerston School
Vernon School
Keene High School
Winchester School (NH)
Brattleboro Rec Dept.
Vermont Green Printing & John Goodhue
Lawton Floor Design

Rentals Plus
Howard Signs

Thanks to all of our parents and families who support their players throughout the season and contribute so much during our season.

And thanks to our entire coaching staff, who volunteer their time and energy to developing great players, students, and citizens.

As a result of the generous support of all those organizations and individuals listed above, the Vipers program is in great shape to take on all new challenges.  We are already looking forward and planning for next season and hope that together we have established an athletics program with a long and bright future.
